Hitting the beach during the summer is a no-brainer, but the coast is just as gorgeous in the fall when the weather’s still nice, the crowds are fewer, and fun festivals come to town. The Outer Banks Seafood Festival in Nags Head, North Carolina

On October 20, 2018, this fun and educational festival will honor and celebrate the area’s seafood heritage and community. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Outer Banks watermen and see the tools of their trade, including boats, crab pots and pound nets. You’ll find educational booths, live music, an arts and crafts village and the chance to eat fresh, local seafood from more than a dozen restaurants. Returning again for the second year, there will also be an on-site Boat and Tackle Show at this Nags Head festival.

Day at the Docks in Hatteras, North Carolina

Farther south in the Outer Banks, this local festival celebrates the heritage, strength and traditions of the community’s watermen with family-friendly activities, games, and seafood tastings. Held right on the waterfront in Hatteras Village, September 14-15, 2018, the festival’s events typically include seafood talks with people in the industry, the Seafood Chowder Cook-off, artists tents, the Concrete Marlin Competition, fishing demos, and the Kid’s Fishing Tournament. The finale includes the annual boat parade and blessing of the fleet at Hatteras Harbor Marina.

Annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama

The 47th Annual National Shrimp Festival is a delicious reason to head to the Gulf on October 11-14, 2018. The festival features more than 100 hours of musical entertainment from all genres; plenty of local and regional vendors with mouth-watering dishes; activities like a golf tournament and charitable races; and contests like the Annual Sand Sculpture Contest. Art lovers can also browse booths of fine arts and local crafts at this Gulf Shores beach festival.

HHI Motoring Festival in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

This unique, multi-day Lowcountry motoring experience showcases major names in automotive collecting and racing, spotlighting the centuries-old love story between man and machine. This year, the Hilton Head festival events from November 2-4, 2018, will include a Car Club Showcase, Aero Expo, Concours D’Elegance, Flights & Fancy Aeroport Gala, and more.

Destin Fishing Rodeo in Destin, Florida

Held throughout the month of October in “The World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” this fishing tournament is the ultimate for salt water anglers of all ages. Prizes range from fine rods and reels to fishing trips, weekend stays and cash prizes. All anglers who fish aboard a boat that’s registered in the rodeo are welcome to compete. For the rest of the family, rodeo events include watching the daily weigh-ins, kids’ activities like the annual Kids FallFest, and more.

Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival in Delaware Beaches

This annual arts festival takes place on the Saturday after Labor Day, featuring a range of works from local artists and craftsmen. More than 100 juried artists, both local and from around the country, will display their works along the bandstand and boardwalk areas, as well as through street festivals in downtown Bethany Beach. The fall beach festival includes jewelry, glass, pottery, watercolor and oil painting, photography, basketry, woodworking and more, all against the coastal backdrop of Delaware Beaches.
