Beach Workout | 5 Tips to Stay Fit During Your Next Vacation

Heading to the beach this year for a vacation away from the hustle and bustle of real life? Stay fit and active during your next trip to the sandy coast with these five beach workouts designed to burn fat, keep your healthy and leave you with plenty of time to soak up some sun!

Beach Run: Running along the beach can be a liberating and beneficial way to stay active during your vacation. The uneven terrain of the sandy coast works muscles in new ways, allowing you to run for less time or less distance, while still getting in a great workout! Start slowly with only 20-30 minutes the first day and add extra distance to your run each day. The best time to run along the beach is early in the morning or early evening while the temperature is low. Don’t forget to stay hydrated before you head out for your workout!

Living Room Burpees: Burpees, an exercise where you perform a push up, followed by a jumping squat, is a simple, yet deceiving movement. It doesn't take long before you realize that you are working nearly every muscle in your body, without the need for equipment! Start off by finding a cool place in your beach home or condo and set a goal for yourself. Start out by trying to complete 30 burpees as quickly as possible, adding 10 more burpees each day you are at the beach!  Looking to make the challenge even more difficult? Bring a towel to the beach and perform your burpees in the sand!

Body weight exercises

Body Weight Circuit: Our bodies are all designed to move in efficient ways in order to keep us safe, and build strong muscles. Skipping out on using extra equipment is a great way to perform safe, effective movements while burning some calories and having fun at the same time!  Pick three to five movements that you can do without any extra equipment and perform them in a circuit, moving from one to the next. I would suggest movements such as sit ups, air squats, push-ups, jumping jacks and burpees and start off by doing as many repetitions of each movement in 30 seconds followed by 30 seconds of rest; then moving onto the next movement. Repeat this circuit for a total of 15-20 minutes, taking 1-2 minute breaks when necessary.

Vacation bike rides

Biking: Renting a bicycle while on vacation is a great way for your entire family to stay active. During your trip, be sure to engage every vacationer in your group and set out on new adventures each day! Find a location that you would like to explore and ride your bikes there, instead of driving the car. Most rental bicycles are single speed cruisers; so you know you will be working extra hard to earn each and every mile traveled!

  • 3 Minute Beach Run
  • 2 Minutes of Jumping Jacks
  • 1 Minute Plank Hold
  • 3 Minute Beach Run
  • 2 Minutes of Air Squats
  • 1 Minute of Plank Holds
  • 3 Minute Beach Run
  • 2 Minutes of Burpees
  • 1 Minute of Plank Holds.
