The South is known for a plethora of delicious culinary concoctions, such as Shrimp & Grits and Fried Green Tomatoes, but when it comes to the best drinks on the Gulf Coast, few can top the originality of the Bushwhacker. An icy adult treat, comprised of dark Rum, crème de cacao, cream of coconut and coffee liqueur, the Alabama Gulf Coast may just be home to some of the best Bushwhackers in the world. With plenty of Gulf Shores restaurants and bars offering their own spin on the refreshing Alabama cocktail, one could say “Home of the Best Bushwhacker” is a title every restaurant along the Gulf Coast is vying for.
If you’re looking for things to do or places to visit in Gulf Shores, Alabama, check out these great Alabama Gulf Coast eateries to try their version of the Southern favorite:
Tacky Jack’s has been a local and visitor favorite for no-nonsense eating along the Alabama Gulf Coast for decades. Their three area locations make it easy to enjoy their eats wherever you are vacationing along the coast, and their famous dishes such as “Mexican Garbage” (nachos), “Crawdad Po-Boys.” Their Bushwhackers are what draw repeat diners over the years. Amazing views from their waterfront dining decks ensure that no matter what dish or drink you select, you will enjoy it with a smile, while their relaxed and funky décor makes dining fun for everyone in the group.
Known widely as the world’s most famous “roadhouse bar and grille,” the Flora-Bama is also known to serve one of the best Bushwhackers. The restaurant serves the delicious treat at each of their multiple bars on their Alabama-Florida State line location, their adjacent Flora-Bama Yacht Club, and Flora-Bama Ole’ River Bar & Grill. For those who are brave (and have a designated driver for the day), you may elect to have yours served with the famous “floater.”
Cobalt The Restaurant
Bushwackers don’t always need to be served at a bar. For some, a more elegant approach is desired for enjoying the Southern favorite. Cobalt the Restaurant serves their own take on the Bushwhacker, preparing each drink with the same level of care that goes into their food. Their offerings feature fresh scooped ice cream and top-shelf spirits sure to provide the perfect after-dinner treat or afternoon cocktail while you watch the boats come through the famous “Pass” in Orange Beach. Similar to Flora-Bama, the servers may ask if you would like the “floater.” Please ensure that you have a designated driver if you elect for your beverage to be served with the extra 151 on top!
