See Breckenridge’s unique character during a signature Colorado town event, most of which are free! Locals love to celebrate no matter the season and visitors can join in on the snowy fun with one of these 2018 winter events in Breckenridge:
Race of the Santas & Lighting of Breckenridge
Join the Race of the Santas on December 2, 2017, as hundreds of holiday enthusiasts of all ages, dressed in festive costumes, race down historic Main Street for a chance at winning Ullr helmets and prize packages awarded to the top finishers. Not a runner? Walk, jog or skip along the six-block course. Children dressed in holiday costumes are welcome to join their parents in the Santa Race. You’ll be doing some good too, as all proceeds benefit the Breckenridge Boy Scout Troop 187. After the race, join in on the Lighting of Breckenridge! Let your pet help lead Santa into town with the Holiday Dog Parade, and watch as Santa flips his magical switch to light up the town for the season. Then let the little ones visit with Santa himself and stop by the Handmade Holiday Market.
International Snow Sculpture Championships
Snow artists from around the world will compete January 22 – 29, 2018, in Breckenridge at the International Snow Sculpture Championships. Sculptures start as 12-foot-tall, 20+ ton blocks of snow and are transformed into stunning works of art. Teams from all over the world will compete, using only hand tools to sculpt their masterpiece across the five days (65 hours) of this one-of-a-kind event. Visitors can vote for their favorite sculpture throughout the week and stop by the Thaw Lounge+Music for postcards, pins and a look at past works of art from the event’s 28-year history.
Ullr Fest celebrates 55 years this January 10 – 13, 2018, and Breckenridge invites snow lovers of all ages to join the party. During Ullr Fest, don’t be surprised to see horned Viking hats adorning the heads of skiers and snowboarders; the biggest bonfire in town; and more than 12,000 Ullr enthusiasts filling the streets for the Ullr Parade with crazy float participants skiing off jumps on Main Street or gliding along town in a hot tub – all in celebration of Ullr himself, the winter god in Norse mythology.
Breckenridge Mardi Gras
Each year, New Orleans visitors and Mardi Gras lovers take over Breckenridge with masks, boas, beads, music and revelry to commemorate the carnival season. Breckenridge Mardi Gras will kick off in style on February 13, 2018, with the annual Mardi Gras parade, along with a Mardi Gras party in Main Street Station Plaza (located at 505 S Main Street). This Breckenridge event will have free live music, hurricanes, gumbo, dancing and more!
