Get some R&R this year! January 31, 2017, marks the first annual National Plan Your Vacation Day! The movement Project: Time Off started this day to encourage everyone to declare their vacation days for the rest of the year, at the start of the year so none get left on the table. It’s time to make sure you’re getting the break you need to avoid burnout and exhaustion.
Here are a few different types of vacations to help you start planning, whether you’re up for adventure, culture or peace and quiet:
For the hikers: Smoky Mountains, Tennessee
Home of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, this area of Tennessee boasts some of the top family-friendly hiking in the Southeast. With plenty of outdoors fun to be had, hikers, mountain bikers and overall adventurers will love to take some time off to visit this forest heaven.
For the beach goers: Northwest Florida
Coastal Northwest Florida is famous for its soft, sugar-white sand and clear, emerald-green water. Featuring top-ranked beaches along the coastline of the Gulf of Mexico, along with attraction-rich cities and charming beach communities, this is the perfect destination to spend your precious days off in the sun and sand.
For the skiers: Keystone, Colorado
Keystone ski resorts feature not only some of the best skiing in the state, they also claim the most lighted terrain for night skiing in Colorado. Cross-country skiing at Keystone Nordic Center offers a different type of challenge, while Arapahoe Basin boasts the highest skiable terrain in North America. Spending your days off slopeside in this spot won’t let you down.
For the history buffs: Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston is a southern city with plenty of American history just waiting to be discovered. Everything from the cobblestones to the iron gates has a story to tell. Just a short ferry away is also Fort Sumter, exactly where the Civil War began. With so much to discover, you’ll never want to leave.
For the sea-foodies: Gulf Shores, Alabama
Seafood lovers are in for a treat with Gulf Coast specialties such as fresh gulf shrimp, royal reds (a sweet, deep water shrimp varietal), succulent grouper, tantalizing tuna and delicious Mahi Mahi. Make every meal a fishy one in Alabama. You can also take a boat out on the Gulf of Mexico to catch a seafood dinner of your own!
For the music lovers: Palm Springs, California
Palm Springs is home to world-class music festivals and music venues that will keep you coming back again and again. Events like Coachella and Desert Trip attract thousands of music lovers each year to this desert town in California, and planning ahead of time is key to making the most of your time.
