In the outdoor world, we use the phrase “YOLO” (you only live once) often- whether we are about to go on an epic adventure, dare ourselves to perform a feat, or splurge on a new gadget.
YOLO Board piggy-backed on the phrase to name it after their paddleboard company. In 2007, YOLO Board was born in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The beaches of Northwest Florida are known for their unsurpassed beauty and diverse waterways: a mix of salt and fresh water; of bays, gulfs, rivers, and lakes; of flatwater and coastal paddling.
Since its inception, YOLO has expanded its empire worldwide, but the headquarters remain in Miramar Beach. If you love paddle boarding, go straight to the source and rent a YOLO board to paddle on the beaches it was born.
One of the most popular spots to paddle is Horseshoe Bayou, a quiet cove in the Choctawhatchee Bay where the brick-and-mortar post for YOLO Board Adventures is located. The waters are relatively calm.
Another location to paddle is at Coastal Dunes Lakes, just up the coast from Miramar Beach. These lakes hide behind the beach's towering dunes and are flat as glass, but due to fluctuations in the tide, sometimes a pass forms between the dunes, allowing salt water and fresh water to flow freely between. Paddle one of the three lakes at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park; Fuller Lake, Morris Lake and Campbell Lake.
The staff at YOLO is impeccable, all with experience paddling the waters of Northwest Florida. Before you leave with your board rental, the YOLO staff gives you a crash course on paddle boarding and answers any questions so that you feel comfortable prior to paddle boarding.
To immerse yourself further, take a fitness class at YOLO Board Adventure in Sandestin. Stand up paddle boarding is a great core workout, and the 55-minute class works the whole body with high intensity interval training. The YOLO Yoga class challenges your balance and strength, as your YOLO board becomes your yoga mat. The yoga sessions vary between challenging or calming yoga. YOLO Yoga happens on Tuesdays from May through August.
Rent a YOLO board for pick-up at one of the two YOLO Board + Bike stores: Gulf Place on 30A and Highway 393 in Santa Rosa, or at 11610 US Highway 98 W in Miramar Beach.
