Even though snow doesn’t often fall in Florida, who says you can’t still have a white Christmas? The Northwest Florida Gulf Coast is known for its sugar-white sand beaches, which offer a blanket of glistening white to enjoy without the cold. To make an escape from winter weather while still joining in on holiday festivities, here are nine winter events to experience in Northwest Florida Beaches:
Santa’s Grand Arrival at the HarborWalk Village
Tell the kids not to worry: Santa makes an early arrival in Destin to hear everyone’s wishes! Come welcome him for his grand arrival on November 24, 2018, right at noon at the HarborWalk Village in Destin. Make sure the little ones bring their letters so they can drop their notes into the special North Pole mailbox.
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
Enjoy watching the tree light up the Destin skies on November 29, 2018, at 6:00 p.m. in the Destin Community Center. Fill your heart with your favorite holiday carols sung by local choral and musical groups, and make sure to stay afterward to enjoy some refreshments. It’s an event that offers fun for everyone in the family.
Christmas in the Park
This isn’t your average day in the park. On December 1, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., bring your friends and family to Navarre Park to enjoy Christmas in the Park. Everything from arts and crafts (great for gathering gift ideas!) to face painting and a cake walk, the festivities will help get everyone in the holiday spirit.
“It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play”
Enjoy a beloved holiday classic by Joe Landry, creatively staged by Emerald Coast Theatre Company at their cool performance space in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin in Miramar Beach. It’s a rare treat to see and hear this 1940s radio broadcast come to life. Running from December 6, 2019 – December 23, 2018, there’s no excuse to not catch this magical show for all ages.
Destin Lighted Boat Parade
If being on the water is more your style, boats will light up the Gulf on December 10, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. all along the Destin Harbor. Sit back and enjoy the parade as the infamous Destin Fishing Fleet, decked in all the holiday lights you can imagine, sails through the harbor before a spectacular fireworks show ends the night at 9:00 p.m.
Chris Mann Featured Guest for Holiday Pops Concert
Vocalist Chris Mann returns to the Sinfonia stage at Village Baptist Church on December 14, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. in the annual Holiday Pops concert. Mann, whose crystalline voice garnered his place as a finalist on NBC’s “The Voice,” will join forces with Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s full orchestra for one of the most magical concerts of the holiday season.
Jane Lynch Puts Some “Swing” into Christmas
Sinfonia Gulf Coast’s annual gala event will be held on December 18, 2018, featuring singer and actress Jane Lynch. Lynch is an Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner for her portrayal of Sue Sylvester on “Glee” and is currently the two-time Emmy Award-winning host of NBC's “Hollywood Game Night.” For “A Swingin’ Little Christmas,” Lynch brings along Kate Flannery (from NBC’s “The Office”), Tim Davis (from “Glee”), and The Tony Guerrero Quintet for the jazziest holiday concert ever. Northwest Florida Ballet Presents Lightwire Theater’s “A Very Electric Christmas”
If you’re looking for a different kind of holiday show, you’re in luck. On December 21, 2018, at 7:30 p.m., and December 22, 2018, at 2:30 p.m., Northwest Florida Ballet’s special holiday show lights up the stage at the Destin United Methodist Church Life Center. A former finalist on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” Lightwire Theater ignites the stage, telling theatrical stories of family and friendship using neon puppet creatures set to timeless holiday classics. This electroluminescent theatrical experience is a can’t-miss event for all ages.
On November 16-17, 2018, at 7:30 p.m., and November 18, 2018 at 2:30 p.m., bring the whole family to the Northwest Florida Ballet to watch this classic, magical production come to life. Grab some refreshments before heading in, and then sit back and let your heart fill with holiday joy.
